Éire Óg faced old rivals St Colmcilles in the final of the 2020 Fr. O’ Hanlon Cup.
In a year where football was curtailed by COVID-19 it was great to see these two rivals face off.
Early points from Oxford born McGlynn and Morrissey settled the Oxford side with Joe Scullion adding a third. A fine score from Conor Carney reduced the deficit before the first water break. The second quarter resumed in earnest Jack McGowan ended a fine move from the Oxford side when the midfielder finished with a goal. Piers McGlynn and Conor Carney traded points, with McGlynn scoring another fine effort before St. Colmcilles finished the scoring for the first half with a point from Dougie Galbraith.

The third quarter began in earnest with a goal from Kevin Morrissey and points from Reid, McGlynn and Liam Reale before Conor Carney could reply for the St Albans side with a point. Liam Reale scored another fine effort before St. Colmcilles replied with a point from Tom Toland and then a magnificent effort by Mark Hayes. Tomás McDonagh scored a nice point and then hit the post with a goal chance. Jack McGowan added a point to his haul for the Oxford side before St Colmcilles broke and scored a nice goal on the counter the finish courtesy of Conor Carney. Neil Gallagher tagged on a point before Éire Óg moved the ball up the pitcgh and Joe Scullion rifled the ball into the top corner from just inside the D. Four wides followed from Éire Óg before the referee Paul Connolly blew the whistle for the Oxford side to win the Fr. O’ Hanlon Cup for the first time in their history.
