Éire Óg Oxford Vs Claddagh Gaels Luton
Thursday 7th June
Glo-Herts League
Éire Óg welcomed Claddagh Gaels of Luton to Oxford in the Glo-Herts senior football league.
The game was played at a good pace with both sides getting on the scoreboard early on. Éire Óg Goalkeeper Tara Davies took a hard ball to the hand in the first half but battled bravely on. Goals from debutant Sile Johnson and points from Deborah Cuddy and Caoimhe Kelly helped to ensure the home team were in the lead at half time.
Half time score: Éire Óg 1-8 Claddagh Gaels 2-2
Tara’s injury forced her to come off the field at half time, and Sorcha Edmiston who was supporting the game from the side-lines due to injury, volunteered to step into goals for the second half. Emma Culleton and Sorcha Mulligan combined well in the second half for the Oxford attack. Claddagh Gaels rallied to come back into the game with several goals in quick session. However, scores from the Éire Óg attack sealed a historic first win for Éire Óg over Claddagh Gales.
Full time score: Éire Óg 3-20 Claddagh Gaels 6-5
Tara Davies unfortunately needed surgery to fix two broken fingers, we wish her a speedy recovery. Special thanks to Sorcha Edminson for stepping in.
