Following on from their meeting in the league final earlier on in the season, both in form sides travelled to Watford, where Glen Rovers hosted the first county final at their new facilities. In perfect footballing conditions, the first half saw points traded at either end and was very much nip and tuck; an indication of the familiarity between the teams. However two goals early in the second half saw the Saints deliver a killer blow, and one which their Oxford based opponents would never fully recover from in time for the final whistle. The scoreboard was kept ticking over at both ends from there, and an impressive goal saw Eire Og ramp up the pressure as proceedings were drawing to a close. But St Colmcille’s utilised their experience to defend resolutely and see the victory out against the remaining Eire Og pressure, making them County Champions again to follow on from their 2016 success. A disappointing end to the campaign for the Oxford Team, but a real year of progress for our Men’s Senior Football Team
